THE ROLE OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS IN STRATEGIC PLANNING Abstract: This study aimed to explore the role of information systems in supporting strategic planning within organizations. The objectives were to investigate how information systems facilitate strategic analysis, improve decision-making processes, and enhance organizational alignment with strategic goals. A survey research design was chosen to gather quantitative data from 270 respondents, selected using the Taro Yamane formula to ensure representation across industries emphasizing strategic management and planning. The study focused on a case study of a consulting firm in Abuja, known for its strategic advisory services and use of business intelligence systems for strategic decision support. Conducted in Abuja, the reliability coefficient score was determined to be 0.88, indicating strong internal consistency in survey responses. The findings indicated that information systems support strategic planning by providing real-time data insights, enabling scenario analysis, and fostering collaboration among strategic stakeholders. The study recommends that organizations integrate strategic planning tools with information systems, invest in predictive analytics capabilities, and align IT strategies with long-term business objectives to enhance strategic agility, responsiveness, and competitive advantages in dynamic market environments.
